Collaboration Empowering Youth Through Akabarey Farming in Palungtar
The Bimala-Binishma Panta Foundation, in collaboration with Punya Foundation, has launched a promising youth empowerment initiative in rural Gorkha through the cultivation of Akabarey Khursani, Nepal’s iconic chilli brand.
With rising youth unemployment and outmigration in rural areas, the project aims to create local livelihoods through high-value chilli farming. Mr. Prakash Jung Pant, founder of the Bimala-Binishma Panta Foundation, has been instrumental in raising and mobilising funds, inspired by his deep-rooted desire to give back. “This is about more than farming — it’s about giving youth a reason to stay, grow, and lead in their own communities,” said Mr. Pant.
The Punya Foundation is proudly supporting the effort by channelling funds directly to Nepal, ensuring resources reach grassroots communities efficiently and transparently.
On the ground, implementation has been led by Mr. Sudip Panta, who has worked closely with youth to establish nurseries, deliver training, and connect farmers to markets. He says, “when young people realise they can earn from their own land, their mindset changes. Farming becomes dignity, not struggle”.
This initiative is more than just agriculture — it’s about restoring hope, building rural resilience, and investing in the next generation of Nepali change-makers.
